Esther Ling

BIO/DESCRIPTION

Esther is a Malaysian-born Canadian pianist, composer, singer-songwriter and recording artist currently based in Calgary, AB, Canada. A thoughtful and sensitive composer, she writes to tell heartfelt stories of people and shared experiences of life.

Born and raised in Malaysia, she’s carried stories across oceans since she was 17. Music has always been her compass — from the piano keys of childhood to the songs she writes today. She grew up with a father who generously shared his love for Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, and a mother who adored Mando-pop artists, Jacky Cheung and Anita Mui; making classic and ballad music from the 70s and 80s the backdrop of what Esther would soak in herself.

Stories fascinate her. Through her music, she explores healing, belonging, and the quiet strength found in our shared human stories. Having lived the life of an immigrant, writing music has allowed her to express deep wounds, paving the path for her own healing. As an artist, her passion is to share that same journey and connection with others.

Her debut single, “Pink Walls”, brought a profound message on domestic violence; it was featured on CBC Radio, CKUA Radio, 20 independent radio stations worldwide, and used by women shelter organizations in domestic violence campaigns across USA and Canada. Her debut children’s song, “Cheeky Wind” is the winning song of the 2025 Grande Prairie Boys Choir Songwriting Competition and her first dive into choral composition, of which was premiered by the Grande Prairie Boys Choir, receiving local acclaim for its charm and creativity.

She is an active performer in the community, supporting the local music community as an accompanist. She is a solo artist with a thriving business providing live music for weddings. She continues to write music and share intimate stories through the gift of song, with the hope that her listeners can find a vestige of the healing and connection that music is for her.
