Edmonton Music Prize 2016 Top 3 Finalists
December 16, 2016
This is the fourth year for the Edmonton Music Prize, to recognize Edmonton-based musicians or musical collectives that have released a recording in the past 18 months. The award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered by Alberta Music (the Alberta Music Industry Association). A 1st prize of $8000.00 will be awarded to the winner and two prizes of $1000.00 will be awarded to the runners-up.
The Prizes will be awarded in recognition of superior work and achievement in the realm of recorded music as assessed by a panel of experts assembled by Alberta Music. In addition to the primary assessment of superior musical work, priority will be given to nominees that have also made a unique contribution, or outstanding accomplishment in music within the last 18 months. The finalists are:
Scenic Route to Alaska – Long Walk Home
“This year, as always, we had very strong submissions for the Edmonton Music Prize,” says Chris Wynters, executive director of Alberta Music, “It is always challenging for our jury to come up with the three finalists but they have done a great job!”
The winner and runners-up will be named and awarded, along with the Edmonton Film Prize, at a reception at Metro Cinema, January 26, 2017 at 7:00pm.
“The Edmonton Music Prize is really something that invigorates the entire music community in Edmonton. That prize goes to support an artist in Edmonton, and as with most artists, that means they can get right back to work whether that’s in local studios or venues across the globe. The award was immensely helpful in getting our album “Stand in the Fire” released, and I hope other Edmontonians can benefit in the same way we did” – Striker
