Striker took home the 3rd Annual Edmonton Music Prize of $8000 for their album "City of Gold" Tuesday, January 12th with runners-up Lucette and Faith Healer each receiving $1000.
The money comes at a time when the band is set to release their new album "Stand In The Fire" and embark on tour through Europe and South America.
This is the third year for the Edmonton Music Prize, to recognize Edmonton-based musicians or musical collectives that have released a recording in the past 18 months. The award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered byAlberta Music.
The Prizes are awarded in recognition of superior work and achievement in the realm of recorded music as assessed by a panel of experts assembled by Alberta Music. In addition to the primary assessment of superior musical work, priority is given to nominees that have also made a unique contribution, or outstanding accomplishment in music within the last 18 months. .
