Submission Deadline is Monday, September 28th, 2015
Alberta Music and the Edmonton Arts Council are pleased to announce a third commencement of the Edmonton Music Prize, a $10,000 annual cash prize to recognize an Edmonton-based musician or musical collective that has released a recording in the past 18 months. The award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered by Alberta Music (the Alberta Music Industry Association).
A 1st prize of $8000.00 will be awarded to the winner and two prizes of $1000.00 will be awarded to the runners-up. The Prizes will be awarded in recognition of superior work and achievement in the realm of recorded music. All forms of musical expression are eligible to be considered.
Edmonton has such a diverse field of artists and those artists release many recordings each year. It may be difficult to pick out a true stand-out, deserving the prize over any other based only on musical merits. Therefore, in addition to the primary assessment of superior musical work, priority will be given to nominees that have also made a unique contribution, or outstanding accomplishment in music within the last 18 months.
An outstanding accomplishment is something that sets the artist apart from their peers, that has elevated their career, created an unusual opportunity for them or perhaps has even promoted the Edmonton music scene as a whole and the other artists therein.
Chris Wynters, executive director of Alberta Music said,“We are thrilled to be working again with the Edmonton Arts Council on the Edmonton Music Prize. We are so lucky to live in a city that celebrates its diverse and rich musical culture and we are excited to see that culture reflected in the amazing nominations that I’m sure will come in this year!”
"We are happy to partner with our friends at Alberta Music on the third annual Edmonton Music Prize," said Paul Moulton, executive director of the Edmonton Arts Council. "This prize is an exciting opportunity to celebrate and promote the spectacular pool of talent in Edmonton’s music industry."
Last year’s winner was The Provincial Archive, for the album It’s All A Shaken Wonder. Runners up were Joe Nolan for Tornado and Marco Claveria Project for Origins. 2013’s winner was Nuela Charles, for her album, Aware, with the runners up: Calvin Love for New Radar and N. Antonio Peruch for Logos Futura.
The deadline for the submission of nominations is Monday, September 28th, 2015. All submissions must be mailed to Alberta Music not later than this date. The prizes will be handed out at event to take place in early December 2015.< Previous Post Next Post >
