2015 has been a busy year for Alberta Music. Through our LIVESTOCK Program we were on the ground and active at events all over Alberta; from Sled Island to UP+DT Festival; from the Songrise Music Conference in Peace River to our first ever COMMUNITY Program event in High River. Through LIVESTOCK, the year took us to ten international events, producing showcases involving 37 Albertan artists at the Americana Conference, Reeperbahn, Folk Alliance International, Edmonton/Nashville Sister Cities Celebrations, SXSW, Reykjavik’s Winter Lights Festival, The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Alberta Focus at BreakOut West, and even our own Alberta Focus Showcase in London, UK. Our DOWNLOAD Info Sessions were well attended and we were excited to take on topics like Crossing Borders, Streaming Your Music, and even a Guitar Tone workshop with Juan Alderete (of the Mars Volta).
2015 has brought to light the Alberta Music Cities Initiative as well as the Edmonton Live Music Initiative, both of which are already making things happen (with the help of some forward thinking political types) in the move towards Calgary and Edmonton becoming true music cities. Alberta Music will continue to work with these groups and will continue to advocate for Albertan musical artists and industry through our involvement with the CCMIA, WCMA, CIMA and Music Export Canada.
Next year is the YEAR OF MUSIC in Calgary! The Junos are coming! It’s going to be an exciting year in our province. Now lets all go and drink some eggnog and enjoy a few days with our families before we take on 2016.< Previous Post Next Post >
