Hi-Strung Downers’ sound — one that straddles that Mason-Dixon Line between country, rock, punk and rockabilly, and one that the band have expertly bundled their experiences and emotions into on Can’t Feel Good All the Time.
It swings, it twangs, it reels and it rocks its way from piston-pumper Rev It Up and foreboding strummer Gun Shop to the plaintive piner that puts a close to it all, Why Can’t You Be Mine.
And while it’s nowhere near the collective heartbreak expression that the band’s last record, 2014’s Here She Lies, was, the new album is still, as the title suggests, not really about a courtin’ and contentment when it comes to matters of the heart.
