The hills are alive with the folk/roots sound of JOAL KAMPS – an award-winning solo artist recently turned husband/wife duo who are deeply passionate about connecting with people through music and laughter. Based in Calgary, Alberta Joal and Lauren Kamps blend storytelling with songwriting to create “Rocky Mountain Folk-Pop” songs inspired by Canadian history, rocky mountain folklore, and their own personal journey.
Kamps’ sophomore release Heads Is East, Tails Is West is an anthemic collection of storytelling songs that make the perfect soundtrack for any road trip. The full-length album debuted at #2 on Earshot’s National Folk/Roots/Blues Charts and received Kamps’ second nomination for an Album of the Year Award at the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards. Joal and Lauren have been busy touring in support of it’s release and can be found performing year-round throughout western Canada and Europe.
Prior to this, Joal’s debut album Sojourner won an Album of the Year Award at the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards and his first single “Take My World Apart” went on to win a Song of the Year Award in the 2012 Independent Music Awards. He was also awarded Honourable Mention in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition for the song “Learning To Pray”.
Since becoming a duo, the Kamps’ have already performed numerous tours and festival dates as JOAL KAMPS throughout the United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe all as self-taught independent artists. Lauren’s delicate harmonies and Joal’s usage of vivid imagery coupled with an honest and engaging approach to performing allows the Kamps’ to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
