Shane Larmand is a singer/songwriter from the Lakeland Area of Northeast Alberta. His original music is a distinctive mix of roots/rock and folk that features gritty vocals, and rhythmic finger-style picking on a variety of instruments such as an old Guild acoustic, reso-tele dobro, and a banjo. His sound lands somewhere between Southern-rock and Northern Folk with a few other directions and styles thrown into the mix. A friend and band mate once referred to the sound as “muskeg grunge.”
His lyrics are introspective and often delve into themes such as love, society and the artist’s battles with an anxiety disorder. He hopes fans can relate to some of the darker themes he sings about in order to shine a little light on some of their own struggles. His show also features an artistic touch as the songwriter also designs all of his own merchandise and stage décor in a crisp and detailed fine-point micron, line art style.
He recently won the runner-up prize in the Sunrise Records Local Artist Contest which will see 500 copies of his upcoming CD printed and distributed across all Sunrise locations in Western Canada. He will be touring this summer to promote this release, so make sure to catch this Albertan songwriter on the rise!
