Established in 2023 Murdock Altas is a Canadian hip-hop duo blending the grit of West Coast rap, the energy of Southern trap and bounce music, and the soul of rhythm and blues into a cinematic and emotionally charged sound. Based in Edmonton, the MC/producer pairing consists of Altas “The Griot” and Murdock “The Architect,” two artists whose chemistry bridges raw storytelling, experimental production, and modern hip-hop culture.

The duo has collaborated with artists including Python P and Willie B — “The Ichiban Don” — of Top Dawg Entertainment’s A Room Full of Mirrors collective, helping establish their place within a new generation of progressive and emotionally resonant hip-hop artists.

Murdock Altas creates music rooted in authenticity, artistic experimentation, and emotional honesty. Their sound moves seamlessly between street records, introspective storytelling, soulful melodies, and cinematic production.

ALTAS “THE GRIOT”

Altas is a nomadic MC influenced by artists such as Kendrick Lamar, André 3000 and Tupac Shakur. Known for his dynamic vocal tone and expressionist style of rap, Altas combines hard-hitting lyricism with poetic introspection.

His performances move fluidly between aggression, vulnerability, spirituality, and social commentary, creating a style that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Standout records such as GANG, Remove the Glitter, Too Many Times, and Save Face showcase his ability to merge vivid storytelling with emotionally charged songwriting.

MURDOCK “THE ARCHITECT”

Murdock is the sonic architect behind the duo’s sound. Originally emerging from the influential SoundCloud era under the alias Jungle.wav, he developed a reputation for textured production, sample-driven composition, and immersive sonic landscapes.

Drawing influence from J Dilla, Quincy Jones, Just Blaze, Conductor Williams, Kanye West, and The Alchemist, Murdock blends classical musical sensibilities with modern hip-hop production techniques.

His production style combines soul samples, cinematic arrangements, heavy drums, and layered textures to create records that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
