BIO/DESCRIPTION
Holland G. is a queer musician practicing in Amiskwaciwâskahikan, treaty 6 territory. Their sound-based practice spans across DJ-ing, songwriting, and poetry. Holland’s musical identity is tied to their father D’Arcy Greaves’ influence; a local luthier, flamenco guitarist, and music instructor. They first learned to play guitar in D’Arcy’s shop, La Guitare Classique, as a child, and accompanied him to many of his music rehearsals and gigs, bringing them into the world of music at an early age.
Holland contributed drums and percussion, as well as backing vocals for the esteemed queer indie-noise-rock band, Wares, from 2017 to 2023. During their time in Wares, Holland toured every province and territory of Turtle Island, participating in various noteworthy festivals such as; Sled Island Music and Arts Festival, Swamp Fest, SappyFest, NextFest, Folk on the Rocks, Dawson City Music Festival, Taste of Edmonton, Calgary Pride, M Pour Montreal, Regina Folk Festival, and Purple City Music Festival. They have opened for acclaimed acts such as; Cloud Nothings, Ancient Shapes, Said The Whale, Ezra Furman, Dilly Dally, The New Pornographers, and, PUP. Holland contributed to the release of Wares’ album ‘Survival’ on Mint Records in the spring of 2020, which went on to be long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize.
In 2020, Holland formed the melodic-output project, Dot Cardigan, with bandmate Keanan Swan-Azmon (of Fitness, and l.n. baba). With Holland’s original songs at the forefront, they recorded Dot Cardigan’s ‘Assorted Sounds’ E.P. The project is currently writing & rehearsing new material for a full length release.
