” Hewson Grey’s got this super-cool vibe, a complex mesh of indie, alternative, bluesy rock, and ambient psych, that, well, honestly, I think they’re one of the best bands in the city right now”- Michael Senchuk (New Music Michael), Music Blogger
The origins of Hewson Grey can be traced to Edmonton on a cold January evening in 2014. “Through the blizzard I could barely make him out. Slender with a hat, gloves and boots, he trudged through the snow like a soldier on a mission and he was loving every minute of it”.
On his way to a jam, Joe Paonessa stumbled upon the Scottish expat and gave Stuart Bell a lift. Wouldn’t you know it, Stu knew how to strum too.
Hewson Grey have revved up live shows often times leading audiences on a mind-expanding voyage. Rocking the charts and gaining airplay around Western Canada, Hewson Grey is only getting started. Highlights over the last year have been; supporting Rural Alberta Advantage on the main stage at K-Days, supporting the Coronas at Starlite Room (Edmonton), supporting Electric Six at the Forge on Whyte (Edmonton), supporting Royal Oak at Bohemia (Edmonton), headlining Friday night of East Coulee Springfest (2018) and various other festival appearances around Alberta.
On April 5th, 2018, Hewson Grey released their newest single “Waited All Night” which reached #11 on the iTunes rock charts, #174 on the iTunes overall charts and gained airplay on 102.3 NOW FM and CJSR in Edmonton. Previous release Montes et Mare (EP) received airplay from college stations across Canada including CJSR Edmonton and CFBX Kamloops and charted at #7 and #15 respectively on the Exclaim Earshot charts. The band is currently working on follow up singles this winter and will be out in full force playing live over Spring/Summer 2019.
