Amanda Penner

BIO/DESCRIPTION

At the young age of seventeen years old, Amanda Penner is a singer/songwriter who’s been described by many as an old soul. Her melancholy melodies and thought provoking lyrics tell powerful stories leaving a lasting impression, as her unique voice travels through sound waves in small coffeeshops, all the way to larger festival stages. For her, music is not just a hobby, it’s a passion. Amanda’s musical ambitions are to inspire people and write songs that can help others through rough times. She hopes to make other people’s lives better, even if it is just for a four minute song. With lyrics compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, writing has played a part in Amanda’s life from a very young age. She has recently been recognized as a top 5 finalist in the Canada 150 songwriters competition with her song “Home” as well as a top 10 finalist in the SPIRIT of Vimy contest with her song titled “What would you do.” The success from both songs has landed her more opportunities to share her music at local celebrations & ceremonies.
She has also performed countless solo shows in different venues over the past year and a half, shared her music at multiple fundraisers, events & festivals, has gone to open mics, and enjoys performing in bands with her friends. Amanda has been playing guitar for four years, as well as piano for several years. Her soulful voice compared to artists such as Lennon Stella and The Civil Wars is influenced by a variety of genres including classic rock, indie, folk, alternative folk, alternative, and singer/songwriter. She recently had the opportunity to make her first music video to her single “Beautifully Ruined.” This song was also nominated in the Rising Star Category of the Edmonton Music Awards in 2018. For her, music is not just a hobby, it’s a passion. Amanda’s musical ambitions are to inspire people and write songs that can help others through rough times.
