2025 CITY OF EDMONTON ARTS PRIZES – Edmonton Film & Music Prize

AMPIA and ALBERTA MUSIC Announce Edmonton Film & Music Prizes

November 13, 2024, EDMONTON, ALBERTA – The Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA) and the Alberta Music Industry Association (Alberta Music) are pleased to announce the 2025 City of Edmonton Film Prize & Music Prize, as part of the Edmonton Arts Prizes. Nominations are now open!

The Edmonton Arts Prizes recognizes work published, created, or shown in 2024. It celebrates artists from a range of art forms and practices, recognizing their work, and investing in their continued artistic practice and creation. One primary prize of $15,000 will be awarded, and two secondary prizes of $5,000 will be awarded to the runners up in each of the categories.

The Edmonton Music Prize recognizes artists or ensembles that have released a music recording within the relevant 12 months (calendar year) prior to the deadline, and awards prizes to three finalists. In 2024 the winner of the Edmonton Music Prize was HAIDEE for This Shouldn’t Be Typical and Arlo Maverick (Blue Collar) and Home Front (Games of Power) were the runners-up. “Alberta Music is once again thrilled to partner with the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton to celebrate the abundance of talent in Edmonton’s arts community. Together, we shine a light on artists whose creativity and dedication enrich our city and inspire us all,” says Carly Klassen, Executive Director of Alberta Music.

The Edmonton Film Prize, administered by AMPIA, celebrates excellence in Edmonton’s screen-based community. “In the 10 years that AMPIA has administered the Edmonton Film Prize, we have seen a significant increase in both the number and quality of entries. I look forward to seeing this year’s entries!” says Bill Evans, Executive Director of AMPIA. In 2024 Cody Lightning (HEY VICTOR!) won the primary film prize and Adam Scorgie (Thunder: The Life and Death of Arturo Gatti), Omar Mouallem (The Lebanese Burger Mafia) were the runners-up.

The prize program is coordinated by the Edmonton Arts Council, in collaboration with the City of Edmonton and our community partners, to enhance Edmonton’s reputation as a hub for extraordinary creation in the arts.

The submission deadline is Friday, January 17, 2025 at 3:00 pm MT.
