Call For Submissions – BreakOut West private showcases at Folk Alliance International 2018

Please note: This is not a general application for Folk Alliance International – this is an application to perform as part of the BreakOut West private showcases at FAI.

Alberta Music will be returning to the Folk Alliance International conference, and will be teaming up with BreakOut West to present the best in Western Canadian Folk! This event will take place in Kansas City, MO from February 14-18, 2018.

ABOUT
The Folk Alliance International Conference is the world’s largest gathering of the Folk music industry and community (crossing a diverse array of genres including Blues, Bluegrass, Roots, Celtic, Cajun, Appalachian, Traditional, World, and Singer-Songwriter).

Folk Alliance International is a non-profit organization that produces an annual conference that is an industry focal point for folk music.The annual February conference draws over 2,000 artists and industry (agents, managers, publishers, labels, festival/venue presenters, promoters, media) dedicated to folk music. Delegates who attended the 2016 conference represented the over 20 countries including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Scandinavia, Continental Europe, Mexico, and Japan.

Members include record companies, publishers, presenters, agents, managers, music support services, manufacturers and artists that work in the folk music industry.

Alberta Music members are invited to apply to showcase in our private showcase suite. Preference will go to those who have applied for an official FAI showcase (their deadline is now closed).

Evening showcases present opportunities for artists to perform for presenters, while daytime workshops explore critical issues relating to presenting, promoting, and preserving folk music in its many forms. Held over a five day period, the Conference includes:

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
– Genre: Traditional Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Country, Folk, Singer/ Songwriter, World
– Must be a current Alberta Music member.
– Must have recently released an album within the past 18 months
– Must be able to perform as a solo/duo.
– Must be able to perform as an acoustic act.
– Must have valid passport and the ability to cross all international borders
– Must be able to secure own funding for travel & accommodations.
