EDMONTON MUSIC PRIZE 2016 SHORTLIST
November 17, 2016
The short list has been determined for the fourth annual Edmonton Music Prize, a $10,000 cash prize created to recognize Edmonton-based musicians or musical collectives who have released a recording in the past 18 months. The award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered by Alberta Music. A 1st prize of $8,000.00 will be awarded to the winner and two prizes of $1,000.00 will be awarded to the runners-up.
The Prizes will be awarded in recognition of superior work and achievement in the realm of recorded music as assessed by a panel of experts assembled by Alberta Music. In addition to the primary assessment of superior musical work, priority will be given to nominees that have also made a unique contribution, or outstanding accomplishment in music within the last 18 months. A large number of entries were received and the jury has narrowed the field down to a shortlist of ten artists in no particular order:

“It’s always a challenge to come up with the Edmonton Music Prize Shortlist from such a strong field of submissions, but I believe our jury has done a stellar job of it,” said Chris Wynters, executive director of Alberta Music. “Once again we see what a rich and diverse music scene we get to live in!”
Three finalists will be announced mid-December along with the Edmonton Film Prize finalists. Winners will be announced in January 2017 at the Metro Theatre!
