With stops in three new communities this year, Untapped Alberta is ready to take its fourth road trip around the province. Beginning in April, the homegrown music series will bring diverse lineups of emerging and established Alberta artists to all corners of the province.
ATBFinancial, once again the presenting sponsor of the Untapped Alberta concert series, understands the important role that the arts have in strengthening our communities and improving our quality of life.
“Alberta has a thriving community of musicians and songwriters. ATBFinancial is excited to once again partner with Alberta Music to present Untapped Alberta and shed light on the amazing talent and creativity in this province,”said Peggy Garritty, ATB’s Senior Vice President, Reputation and Brand.
Untapped will kick off in Peace River (Apr. 5) before moving to Jasper (Apr. 6), Fort MacLeod (Apr. 12), Red Deer (Apr. 13), Lloydminster (Apr. 26), with its final show in Calgary (Apr. 27).
Untapped Alberta has provided opportunity for growth, not only for artists, but for emerging venues like The Root in Lloydminster. Since taking part in last year’s Untapped series, venue owner Amanda Amundred has seen growth in her community’s live music scene.
“Untapped Alberta is doing something absolutely fantastic!”says Amanda, “This event is offering such a terrific opportunity to artists, venues and communities. We are ecstatic to be part of it! Last year, the room was overflowing with people and talent. What a success!”
Alberta Music will use its industry expertise to keep the lineup fresh and exciting by introducing new artists to communities, while also showcasing fan favourites. Artists will get the opportunity to play in unique and historic venues across the province, such as The Jasper Royal Canadian Legion, and the 100-year-old Empress Theatre in Fort MacLeod.
“Untapped Alberta is so important to Alberta Music,”says Chris Wynters, the association’s Executive Director. “It gives us the opportunity to partner with uniquely Albertan institutions like ATBFinancial and CKUAin showcasing some of Alberta’s truly amazing diverse emerging talent, and putting that talent in front of audiences in communities, large and small, all across the province. With so many submissions to choose from this year, the shows that have been assembled are going to be fantastic!”
With the success of last year’s Untapped Alberta show on CKUA, the radio network will be back on board this year to record and broadcast a radio series from the six live concerts. There is no doubt that this will continue to provide longevity in showcasing Alberta’s talent.
“The Untapped series has given CKUAopportunities to introduce some of Alberta’s most promising new artists to the province and beyond,“said Katrina Ingram, CKUA’s Chief Operating Officer. “Alberta has a rich music scene that needs to be celebrated, and we’re proud to give exposure to these talented up ‘n comers.”
