Alberta Music and the Edmonton Arts Council are pleased to announce a second commencement of the Edmonton Music Prize, a $10,000 annual cash prize to recognize an Edmonton-based musician or musical collective that has released a recording in the past 18 months. The award is sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, and administered by Alberta Music (the Alberta Music Industry Association).
A 1st prize of $8000.00 will be awarded to the winner and two prizes of $1000.00 will be awarded to the runners-up. The Prizes will be awarded in recognition of superior work and achievement in the realm of recorded music. All forms of musical expression are eligible to be considered.
Edmonton has such a diverse field of artists and those artists release many recordings each year. It may be difficult to pick out a true stand-out, deserving the prize over any other based only on musical merits. Therefore, in addition to the primary assessment of superior musical work, priority will be given to nominees that have also made a unique contribution, or outstanding accomplishment in music within the last 18 months.
An outstanding accomplishment is something that sets the artist apart from their peers, that has elevated their career, created an unusual opportunity for them or perhaps has even promoted the Edmonton music scene as a whole and the other artists therein.
Chris Wynters, Executive Director of Alberta Music said, “It’s great that the Edmonton Arts Council is working with us again this year on the Edmonton Music Prize. Last year the prize brought to light some world-class recordings as well as some incredible success stories that went along with them.”
"We are happy to partner with our friends at Alberta Music on the second annual Edmonton Music Prize," said Paul Moulton, Executive Director of the Edmonton Arts Council. "This prize is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and promote the high quality work that is happening every day in Edmonton’s music industry."
Last year’s winner was Nuela Charles, for her album, Aware. Runners up were Calvin Love for New Radar and N. Antonio Peruch for Logos Futura.
The deadline for the submission of nominations is September 29th, 2014. All submissions must be mailed to Alberta Music not later than this date.< Previous Post Next Post >
