Live @ The Artery - 9535 Jasper Ave, Edmonton, AB
Wednesday, Jan 21 - 6:30PM
Our beautiful city is deeply saddened by the loss of the historic Roxy Theatre. Weve all had many fond memories of this iconic venue. The Theatre Network will rebuild and they need our help. Come down and enjoy some great music and share stories about the cool passageways, the comfy seats, the strange bathrooms, the rooftop! The amazing, hard working dedicated staff and above all, all those incredible shows. We'll have a few surprises as well as music from:
PETER STONE (100 MILE HOUSE): Edmonton-based husband and wife duo Peter Stone and Denise MacKay, plus multi-instrumentalist Scott Zubot, have shared their unique brand of original transatlantic folk at shows and festivals near and far. Their beautiful harmonies, rich arrangements and captivating lyrics make their sound truly distinctive.
THE PROVINCIAL ARCHIVE: The provincial archive is dedicated to the acquisition, preservation, publication and public exhibition of documents, parchments, manuscripts, records, books, maps, plans, photographs, magnetic tapes, or other materials regardless of physical form, the preservation of which is in the public’s interest.
MARK DAVIS BAND: ark Davis has been called “one of the most underrated songwriters in the world” (Michael Barclay, Radio Free Canuckistan). His eighth album, Eliminate the Toxins, was nominated for the 2012 Polaris Prize. Herohill called it “the one record every Canadian music fan should hear.”
UNWED MOTHERS: Unwed Mothers is a four piece blues-rock outfit from Edmonton, Alberta. The group came together in the summer of 2012 and deliver a gritty, aggressive style that boasts fat guitar sounds, heart shaking beats and power house vocals.
JOE NOLAN: While it’s not every day that a songwriter makes it from the shadows of open mic nights to the high wattage, real deal scene, Joe Nolan’s old soul lyrics and striking vocals suggest that the odds of breaking through are in his favour.
Joe Nolan’s distinctive and intimate vocals stack the deck. From theramin tremors to raw howls, his range of expression reaches extremes. He delivers bandaged fragility and raw rage with equal impact. The songs are fervent, pressing and intense, attuned at once to the world of youthful melodramas in which Joe, an artist in his early 20s lives, and an older, deeper level of human experience. Insight into the latter has nothing to do with age.
