There were some BIG Announcements made yesterday regarding #JUNOS2016, where Naheed Nenshi declared that 2016 WILL BE THE YEAR OF MUSIC IN CALGARY!
#1: GET INVOLVED! We want local musicians to get involved and perform, as the submission process to appear during JunoFest, the two-day showcase of more than a hundred artists in more than a dozen clubs and rooms around town, is now open at https://junofestsubmissions.ca/ DEADLINE: Jan. 29
VOLUNTEER: Those wishing to volunteer for anything from ticket taking and merchandise sales to stagehands and, yes, seat filling, can do so at OutLoudYYC
THE EVENTS: There are many free + ticketed activities throughout the week, such as the Juno Fan Fare set to take place at Chinook Centre on the Saturday afternoon (April 2) or the Songwriters’ Circle on the Sunday afternoon (April 3) before the big show to be broadcast nationally on CTV
#2: NEW MICRO-GRANT PROGRAM The JUNO's host committee announced a $25,000 micro-grant program, open to musicians, venues, organizations and promoters, in order to “(seed) numerous small and unique musical events” to take place in February and March leading up to Juno Week. Residents of the city or “the immediate vicinity” were encouraged to submit proposals to OutLoudYYC to qualify to receive a grant ranging from $500 to $5,000. More info here
#3 SHOWCASING THE NATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE And while it was already known that one of the major events that helped encourage the Junos to make Calgary its location for 2016 — not to mention have it designated the Year of Music — was the summer opening of the National Music Centre’s new home Studio Bell, on Tuesday it was revealed that it would host a couple of prestigious events during Juno Week including the Juno Welcome Reception and the Juno Chairman’s Reception.< Previous Post Next Post >
