Alberta Music will be returning to the Folk Alliance International conference, and will be teaming up with BreakOut West to present the best in Western Canadian Folk! This event will take place in Kansas City, MO from February 17 – 21, 2016.
The Folk Alliance International Conference is the world’s largest gathering of the Folk music industry and community (crossing a diverse array of genres including Blues, Bluegrass, Roots, Celtic, Cajun, Appalachian, Traditional, World, and Singer-Songwriter).
The annual February conference (now in its 28th year) draws over 2,000 artists and industry (agents, managers, publishers, labels, festival/venue presenters, promoters, media) dedicated to folk music. Delegates who attended the 2015 conference represented the over 20 countries including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Scandinavia, Continental Europe, Mexico, and Japan.
Alberta Music members are invited to apply to showcase in our private showcase suite. Preference will go to those who have applied for an official FAI showcase (their deadline is November 4th).
Evening showcases present opportunities for artists to perform for presenters, while daytime workshops explore critical issues relating to presenting, promoting, and preserving folk music in its many forms. Held over a five day period, the Conference includes:
-Over 2500 registered attendees
-Over 50 workshops, panel discussions, and peer group meetings
-Keynote speakers and feature shows
-Lifetime Achievement and Spirit of Folk Awards
-200+ official juried performances
-500+ unofficial private showcases
-Community outreach concerts and events
-100+ industry exhibitors
-Public Exhibit Hall
-Film Festival, and more
Must be a current Alberta Music member
Must have recently released an album within the past 18 months or upcoming 3 months of the Conference date
Genre must be suitable for the conference; Traditional Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Country, Folk, Singer/ Songwriter, World
All registration costs, travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the artist
Artist must be able to enter the United States (a P2 Visa is not required)
