Alberta Music is proud to be presenting Fist City, 36?, and Colleen Brown at our London Showcase at The Islington on May 18th. Stick around after Fist City for our surprise guests!
When: May 18 - 8:00pm
Where: The Islington (1 Tolfpuddle Street)
Colleen Brown has spent the past two years rediscovering her passion for music, fuelling a stunning collection of songs focused on themes of love, fate and psychic retooling. Co-produced by Joel Plaskett, Raymond Richards and Brown, the small-town prairie-raised singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist will release ‘Direction’ in early 2015.
36? went through a transformation in 2014, members Bowman, Hamilton and Ilott left the band and Ryan Kusz joined in on Drums. Creating the arrangement that makes up 36? today. Scott White on guitar, Mike Malkin on bass, Ryan Kusz on drums, and Taylor Cochrane on keys, synth and lead vocals.
On February 14, 2014 36? released ‘where do we go from here?’, an eclectic mix of songs spouting sugary pop vibes and bursting with psychedelic walls of sound. ‘where do we go from here?’ asserted a more focused and elevated approach to an album than any of the previous 36? recordings and received critical acclaim throughout the Canadian media. Getting press coverage on a number of blogs, and in Beatroute and Calgary Herald.
Supercharged Southern Alberta quartet Fist City burst from basement studios onto the stage in 2009. The twin sibling duo of Kier and Brittany Griffiths — musical collaborators from the womb to the tomb — found ideal foils in frenetic guitarist/songwriter Evan Van Reekum and powerhouse drummer Ryan Grieve. A solid string of releases from labels such as L.A.’s Dead Beat, Victoria’s La Ti Da, and Transgressive have been coupled with tours at home and abroad, glowing reviews, recording with Don Pyle, a Nardwuar interview, and other thrills.
