Location: Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, Calgary
Reporting to: AMCI Steering Committee and NMC Director of Programs
Employment Type: Part-time 6 month term, with potential for a permanent part-time role
NMC and AMCI
Calgary, home to the National Music Centre (NMC), and Edmonton, together present the largest urban centre in Western Canada. They are growing, young, affluent communities.
Alberta has long been a destination for young people from other parts of the country looking for employment opportunities. A resource-based economy, Alberta has consistently delivered strong job growth; and will once again as demand for energy rebounds.
Today, it is evident why Alberta’s reliance on resource industries concerns leaders at the highest level. Economic diversification is a high priority. Investments have been made in agriculture, forestry, high tech, and expanding tourism strategies. Cultural industries have also been identified as potential areas of growth.
Evidence shows that music, when harnessed, has the power to accelerate expansion across a variety of sectors. A vibrant music scene attracts the young affluent workers other industries need. Music is a prime motivator for travelers. And music underpins other cultural and media applications.
Led by the NMC, Alberta is poised to capture the power of music in a way never before realized from Western Canada. NMC will be transformational to the music community in Alberta. The Alberta Music Cities Initiative (AMCI) will build on the strong foundation present in Alberta – in live and recorded music – so that when NMC opens it will be the centre of a healthy, diversified sector brimming with talent and excitement. To support these goals, NMC is conducting a search for a Program Leader for AMCI.
Program Leader, AMCI
The Program Leader will be a visionary and strategic leader with proven experience leading and building success within the AMCI framework. Under the authority of the Steering Committee, this senior position is accountable for inspirational leadership, advocacy, fundraising growth, strategic planning and the implementation of the AMCI’s programs and services. This position also has responsibilities for financial, program, and policy management. This position reports administratively to the Director of Programs at the NMC.
The Program Leader will drive the activities indicated in the AMCI report Fertile Ground (see link: https://www.nmc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/FertileGroundReport_FINAL-web.pdf). The four key recommendations include the development of an economic profile of the music industry in Alberta; the development of a live music strategy for the province; the development of a strategy to increase the business capacity of the music industry in Alberta; and to position music as a key economic sector and vehicle for the diversification of the economy in Alberta.
The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial leader who is comfortable with change, confident in their ability to take AMCI to the next level and who can demonstrate experience and a proven track record working in and with the music industry in Alberta. A positive and friendly attitude, a can-do approach, and strong interpersonal skills are essential. This position requires exceptional organizational abilities and a commitment to detail.< Previous Post Next Post >
