Alberta Music is gearing up and heading to Austin, Texas to take on another year of SXSW! Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, music showcases and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning, business activity thrives at the Trade Shows and global networking opportunities abound. Intellectual and creative intermingling among industry leaders continues to spark new ideas and carve the path for the future of each ever-evolving field, long after the events’ conclusion.
As always, we'll be there this year with our pals from BreakOut West, Music BC, Sask Music, and Manitoba Music to showcase the best in Alberta and Western Canadian talent. The events we'll be waving the Alberta flag at this year are:
BREAKOUT WEST MUSIC X INTERACTIVE
About: This showcase on the intersection between the interactive and music components of SXSW is targeted at technology and innovation companies; key relationships can be formed in synchronization, gaming, streaming, and other new digital strategies. BreakOut West and these provincial associations have partnered on an interactive event for a number of years, and return to Austin with a strong Canadian brand.
Alberta Showcasing Artist: The Wet Secrets
HOW THE WEST WAS WON
About: How The West Was Won is an established internationally recognized brand of Western Canadian music over the past several years. This year we'll be headed there with PEAK Performance Project Alumni The Royal Foundry (#PPP2015) and The Wet Secrets (#PPP2014).
THE BEST FROM THE WEST
About: Canada House is presented by Canadian Blast, an initiative of CIMA (the Canadian Independent Music Association) with support from the Government of Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation. Canadian Blast is a project that seeks to connect Canadian music professionals with other industry professionals around the world via showcases, meetings and events.
At SXSW, this well-established venue is a staple of the 6th street strip in Austin. Its consistent branding of Canadian music and hospitality draws international industry colleagues back every year, serving as a prime networking hub for Canadians to connect with our counterparts from around the world.
